Sakura Matsuri – Cherry Blossom Festival

What a slow start to the day. Cho and I were not able to get an early start as planned to the Saturday. It’s celebrating Sakura Matsuri in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden today. We eventually did get there but it was so disappointing. The cherry blossoms were in bloom but the colors had faded due to the inconsistent weather we’ve had. Rain, cold and heat one after another.

People use to come dressed up as Manga characters in the past years. It was hard to find them this year but we found a few. We did see a lot of kimonos worn by all generation. There was music and dance to reflect the culture of Japan as well as food stalls selling Bento Boxes.

There were stalls that sold wooden Japanese dolls, Manga books, and ornaments of all kinds. Only a few hours was spent there after which we proceeded to our usual and favorite place – Central Park.

We had a fun day though quite warm. Sign of the start of summer.
